Tuyet Mai Hoang, PhD

Tuyet Mai Hoang, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. She completed her PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 2020. She has been an advocate for women's reproductive health and mental health, emphasizing the importance of local perspectives in shaping health outcomes. She uses the lens of critical intersectionality theory and community-based participatory research (CBPR) to investigate racial gendered health inequities and ensure that interventions reflect the lived experiences of the most vulnerable populations. Hoang works collaboratively with community partners to identify the needs and lead initiatives including doula training, stakeholder-engaged approaches to care coordination, and the use of Illinois Chat and digital platforms for care navigation. Her research integrates culturally responsive, racial and trauma-informed practices to advance health equity and improve women’s health outcomes in care deserts.
